We are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
It’s very easy to feel separated from God in our secular culture. It’s also very easy to feel separated from God’s love because of our mistakes. I often feel like my actions determine how close or far I am from God’s love. But this is not the case. Yes, my actions can make my heart calloused or apathetic towards God’s love, but His love is always there. It is my own misdirected thoughts, not the absence of His love, that keep me from Him. God’s love is eternally directed toward us.
For reasons I’ll never understand, God decided to love us through the good, bad, and downright ugly. If sin cannot get between God’s love for us, then what can? Surely death itself would separate us from this eternal love? Nope. Christ proved that the grave couldn’t contain the purest of loves. Even if I launch myself into space and run as far away as is humanly possible, I can’t outrun God’s love. Nothing can separate you from the love of God. Absolutely nothing! Don’t question it; just enjoy being enveloped in His love.
Be Aware: Nothing will separate you from the love of God!
Accept: One of the biggest barriers we have to accepting the promise of God’s love is the simple thought that it’s just too good to be true. We are such broken beings. God is without blemish and perfect. Stop focusing on your imperfections and instead focus on His perfection. Accept that God’s unconditional love is a promise he has made to you and a promise He will surely keep.
Apply: Don’t beat yourself up over your mistakes. Your earthly decisions have no effect on God’s heavenly love for you. They only affect your perception of His love. Let this promise make you feel secure in your walk with Christ. As we strive to be better, and inevitably fail in the process, remind yourself that you are not separated from God’s love. Instead, let God’s love motivate you to grow!
