Have you ever had someone break a promise to you? It hurts. You get your hopes up but then your expectations collide with reality. Our coworkers, friends, and even our family members will never be able to fulfill every single promise they make. However, God will always fulfill His promises.

There is a beautiful worship song by Hillsong United with the following lyrics: “Written in a billion skies, speaking to this heart of mine. All that I am with all creation, hanging on every word that You’ve spoken. And it will not be shaken. Clinging for life to all You promise, hanging on every word that You say. It will remain, and my soul will hang on every word You say.”

These lyrics are breathtaking because they reveal the raw emotion of someone’s soul clinging to the promises of God. Do you share that same feeling? Are you really clinging to the promises of God? Or are the promises of God floating in the background of your life? This life moves fast. Things are changing faster than ever before in history. Through all this change, through all the hustle and bustle of life, what are you hanging on to?

I encourage you to hang on to the Word of God. In our unstable environments, it is the stability of God’s Word that will sustain us. However, it is impossible to hang on to the promises of God if we are not aware of what the specific promises are! We need to know the promises, accept the promises, repeat the promises to ourselves daily, and apply the promises to our lives.

Over the next few weeks, I’m going to write about the promises of God. I hope that you accept them, declare them, and apply them to your everyday thoughts. As our thoughts become more enveloped in the promises of God, our lives begin to take on a whole new meaning.
